Announcing the Passing of Hope
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of one of our special ambassadors this week. Hope, a 20-month-old female veiled chameleon, joined our rescue in very poor condition, and we initially weren't sure she would survive her first night with us.
Hope's Journey and Impact
Hope quickly captured the hearts of everyone who met her. She was known for her flirty nature with other chameleons, often turning dark, opening her mouth wide, and performing a little dance.
Upon arrival, she was extremely weak with all four legs broken, unable to hold her head up or control her limbs. Our dedicated team provided immediate care and support. Despite her injuries, she gained weight and thrived, eventually moving into a full-size enclosure. Her resilience never ceased to amaze us.
Hope became a beloved fixture at all our shows and adoption events, making many friends and serving as the inspiration for our Beads of Hope Jewelry.
The Final Chapter
Towards the end of 2024, Hope began showing signs of weakness, struggling to hold onto objects. A visit to the vet revealed she was carrying infertile eggs, which had depleted her body's calcium reserves, affecting her ability to use her tongue. The prognosis was poor, but we accepted the challenge to help her. After laying 55 eggs and receiving significant calcium supplementation, she bounced back.
Sadly, towards the end of 2025, her health deteriorated significantly. She lost a lot of weight and appeared miserable. Based on advice and the desire to prevent further suffering, the difficult decision was made to let her go peacefully on Tuesday.
Farewell
Hope was incredibly special and deeply loved. Our hearts ache now that she is gone, but we find comfort knowing she is no longer in pain. Thank you for being a part of Hope's inspiring journey.
R.I.P. my sweet girl.

Skarr came into our lives in early October 2025, rescued from a heartbreaking situation. Found abandoned and severely injured in an Orange County apartment, he had suffered a deep, agonizing burn on his back—likely from a fallen heat lamp.
Despite his trauma, he trusted Ginny and I instantly. We began his recovery journey immediately, and our vet later confirmed that our specialized care was exactly what he needed.
We originally planned to trade off his intensive care, but after my first week with him, I couldn't let him go; I had completely fallen for his sweet face.
For five months, Skarr was a staple of our rescue and our home. He loved roaming the backyard with the dogs—under the watchful eye of his protector, Zoe—and became a star at our public events.
The Passing of Skarr
Sadly, after he stopped eating, we prepared for another vet visit to assess his quality of life. On February 21st, after one last event surrounded by friends, Skarr passed away peacefully. Though his time with us was short, he left a permanent mark on our hearts.
Rest in peace my sweet Skarr; thank you for trusting us with your beautiful soul.
